XRP Drops to $1.33 as Whale Inflows to Binance Hit Seven-Month High

XRP has fallen back toward $1.33 after another unsuccessful attempt to reclaim $1.40, with rising whale deposits to Binance and weakening ETF inflows adding to concerns about selling pressure.

Summary

  • XRP fell approximately 2% to $1.33 on October 22 after failing to sustain its recovery toward $1.40.
  • Whale transfers to Binance reached a reported monthly average of $112.4 million, the highest since March.
  • U.S. spot XRP ETFs attracted just $708,520 on October 21 following two sessions without reportable flows.
  • XRP Ledger’s fixCleanup3_4_0 amendment has been delayed until November after losing its required validator majority.
  • Technical indicators remain bearish, with $1.30 and $1.25 providing support beneath immediate resistance at $1.40.

According to CryptoQuant analyst Darkfost, transfers exceeding one million XRP to Binance have accelerated in recent months, taking the monthly average dollar value of whale inflows to $112.4 million, its highest level since March.

Darkfost reported that the monthly average has climbed approximately $72 million since August, exceeding the $90 million average recorded during the preceding three months.

Individual days have seen transfers worth more than $400 million, although the analyst said recent inflows had returned closer to normal levels after the September buildup.

The increase followed a recovery of more than 30% in XRP’s price from its August levels. Darkfost suggested that some large holders may have used the rebound to realize profits.

However, exchange deposits do not establish completed sales. Whale transfers can involve collateral movements, internal custody changes or preparations for future transactions.

The latest observations complement previous research into Binance reserves, which found that XRP holdings across tracked exchanges reached 11.81 billion tokens on October 17.

That reading placed aggregate exchange reserves near the top of their annual range, even though Binance’s own reserves were considerably less elevated.

Separately, crypto.news reported falling whale withdrawals on October 20, when a longer-term measure of XRP leaving exchanges approached a five-year low.

The two indicators measure opposite directions of exchange transfers and should not be confused. Reduced withdrawals do not necessarily mean every incoming whale transfer represents selling.

XRP ETF inflows struggle after 13-week streak ends

Institutional investment products have recorded a similar slowdown in net subscriptions.

According to SoSoValue data, U.S. spot XRP funds received approximately $708,520 on October 21 after reporting no net flows during the first two sessions of the week.

The modest inflow followed the end of a 13-week winning streak. During the week ending October 16, the products recorded approximately $1.84 million in net withdrawals.

Although relatively small against their accumulated assets, the withdrawals interrupted a period of consistent positive weekly flows.

Previous ETF data showed that the funds attracted approximately $11.31 million during the preceding week, considerably below the $75 million recorded during an earlier period of stronger demand.

XRP price faces $1.25 support after rejection near $1.40

XRP traded around $1.33 at press time, declining approximately 2.03% over 24 hours and 13.76% over the preceding month.

The token briefly approached $1.40 before retreating, with daily trading volume near $1.87 billion.

On the daily chart, the Accumulation/Distribution indicator stood near 71.76 billion, down from levels above 72.4 billion in September.

The Aroon Oscillator remained negative at -50, although its recovery from readings around -100 suggested that downward momentum had moderated.

Immediate support sits near $1.30, followed by $1.25. A sustained breakdown below those levels could expose $1.20.

Analyst CryptoBusy identified $1.38–$1.40 as the resistance area that buyers must recover before targeting $1.45–$1.50.

Crypto analyst Gopal highlighted a possible double-top formation, with its neckline near $1.25 and a projected downside target of $0.80 if the pattern confirms.

Ripple’s regulatory progress meets XRP Ledger upgrade delay

Away from the market, Ripple has continued seeking clearer U.S. cryptocurrency rules.

In an October 20 comment letter, Ripple supported the Securities and Exchange Commission’s proposed Regulation Crypto Assets framework.

The company argued that an investment contract can qualify as a security without making the underlying cryptocurrency a security in every subsequent transaction.

Meanwhile, the XRP Ledger’s fixCleanup3_4_0 amendment lost the validator majority needed to maintain its planned October 23 activation date.

The protocol cleanup update requires support above the 80% threshold for two consecutive weeks before activation.

An October 21 dip in validator support interrupted that period, moving the earliest projected activation to November 4 if the required majority holds. The separate lending protocol still needs additional validator approval.
